How Passive Inheritance Works

Each parent can pass down 0–4 passive skills to their child. Community-documented mechanics describe two rolls: an inheritance roll (how many skills transfer) and a mutation roll (how many random new skills appear). The inheritance roll is weighted: 1 skill (40%), 2 skills (30%), 3 skills (20%), 4 skills (10%). Skills are drawn from the combined pool of both parents' passives.

This calculator models both rolls to give you an estimate. The probability model is based on the Palworld wiki mechanics page and is experimental — it has not been validated against a large sample of in-game breeding results.

  • The mutation roll weights and eligible-skill pool are simplified.
  • The "without planning" baseline is a rough order-of-magnitude comparison.
  • Expected eggs uses a geometric-distribution approximation (1 / probability).
