Palworld Breeding FAQ

Answers to common questions about Palworld 1.0 breeding, passive skills, and this tool.

How does breeding work in Palworld 1.0?

Each Pal has a hidden breeding power value. When two Pals breed, the game averages their power values and selects the species whose power is closest to that average. Some special pairs override this system and always produce a specific child. Breeding consumes one cake per attempt.

What changed in breeding for Palworld 1.0?

Palworld 1.0 updated breeding power values for many Pals and adjusted some special combinations. Pre-1.0 calculators may give wrong results. This tool uses data extracted from the 1.0 game files.

How are child Pals determined?

For standard pairs, the child is the breedable species whose breeding power is nearest to the average of both parents. When two species are equally close, the game uses an internal tie-break (approximated here by Paldeck number — see our data source page).

What are special or unique combinations?

Special combinations are specific parent pairs that always produce a defined child, ignoring the power-average system. Some are gender-dependent: the child depends on which parent is male or female. These are marked in the results.

Can any two Pals breed?

Most pairs can breed, but some are blocked by gender. For example, two male-only species cannot breed together. The calculator warns you when a selected pair is incompatible.

How do passive skills inherit?

Each parent can contribute passives to the child. Community-documented mechanics describe an inheritance roll (how many skills transfer) and a mutation roll (how many random new skills appear). The inheritance roll is weighted toward fewer skills.

What's the probability of getting 4 specific passives?

It is low without planning. Using parents that already carry your target passives dramatically improves your odds. Use the Passive Inheritance Calculator for an estimate (experimental).

How many eggs should I expect?

It depends on your target passive set. The inheritance calculator shows an expected egg count based on a geometric-distribution approximation of the experimental model.

What are random mutations in breeding?

Mutations are passives that appear on a child that neither parent had. The mutation roll determines how many random skills can be added. Not all skills are eligible for mutation.

How does the shortest path calculator work?

It uses breadth-first search across all breeding combinations. At each step it tries pairing your current Pal with every breedable species to find the fastest route to your target. The model assumes any Pal can be obtained as a partner.

Can I import my save file?

Not in this version. Save file import is planned for a future phase. For now, manually select the Pals you own.

Is this data accurate for 1.0?

The data is extracted from Palworld 1.0 game files. It has been partially cross-checked against community-known results, but is not fully verified yet. Each combination is labeled with its verification status.

What does "datamined" vs "verified" mean?

"Datamined" means the result is computed from game-file data and is pending cross-check. "Wiki-sourced" means a special combination sourced from wiki.gg. "Verified" means cross-checked against community-known results (currently pending — see data source page).

Is this tool affiliated with Pocketpair?

No. BreedRoute is an independent, unofficial fan-made tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or approved by Pocketpair, Inc. or Palworld Entertainment, Inc. PALWORLD is a trademark of Pocketpair, Inc.

Is it free?

Yes. BreedRoute is free to use and requires no account or payment. We do not use analytics or tracking cookies, and calculator inputs stay in your browser. If you contact us by email, we receive only the information you choose to send; see our Privacy Policy.

Can I use it on mobile?

Yes. The calculator is mobile-friendly and works at 375px width and up.

How often is the data updated?

The data reflects the Palworld 1.0 build. If the game patches breeding values, we update the source data and republish.

Why does my result differ from another calculator?

Other calculators may use pre-1.0 data, different tie-break rules, or a different set of special combinations. This tool uses 1.0 game-file data with transparent verification status.
